In June 2024, industrial production in the Republic of Serbia showed a positive trend, registering a growth of two percent compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the average for 2023, an even greater increase of 2.4 percent was recorded. When considering the period from January to June 2024, industrial production increased by 2.1 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
Analyzing by sector, in June 2024, compared to June 2023, a significant growth of 15.2 percent was recorded in the mining sector, while the manufacturing industry grew by 2.6 percent. On the other hand, the sector of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply saw a decline of 7.6 percent, according to data from the Republic Statistical Office.
When looking at production by purpose groups, in June 2024, compared to the same month of the previous year, there was an increase in the production of capital goods by seven percent, intermediate goods (excluding energy) by 3.5 percent, and non-durable consumer goods by 3.1 percent. However, energy production decreased by 1.6 percent, while the production of durable consumer goods recorded a significant decline of 15.6 percent.
Industrial production in June 2024, compared to June 2023, shows growth in 16 areas, which constitute 54 percent of the total industrial structure. Conversely, a decline was recorded in 13 areas, which make up the remaining 46 percent of the structure.
The largest contribution to the growth of industrial production in June 2024 came from the sectors of food production, computers, electronic and optical products, as well as coal mining, metal ore mining, and basic metals production.
The seasonally adjusted industrial production index for June 2024, compared to May of the same year, shows an overall growth of 0.8 percent, while the manufacturing industry recorded a growth of 1.7 percent. Compared to the average for 2023, the seasonally adjusted index shows a growth of 2.9 percent for the entire industry and 4.3 percent for the manufacturing industry.
The production of small enterprises, which have fewer than 50 employees and are not covered by regular statistical surveys, is monitored based on a sample of selected units from the manufacturing sector. When considering the results of this sample, industrial production in June 2024, compared to the average for 2023, shows an increase of 2.4 percent for the entire industry, while in the manufacturing industry, this growth is significantly higher at eight percent.
